# How to	reset to factory default	settings?

Example: If you forget the password for you router’s configuration interface, you can do a factory\ reset to return the settings to the factory defaults.\ Note: Performing a factory reset will erase all current settings, and this action cannot be undone.

{% stepper %}
{% step %}
With the unit on, use the end of a paperclip to press the reset button, which is located\
inside a small hole on the base of the unit.

{% endstep %}

{% step %}
Using the paperclip, press and hold the reset button for more than ten seconds. The\
power light on the front of the router will turn orange to indicate that the unit is restarting.

{% endstep %}

{% step %}
The unit will reboot automatically. Once the power light stops blinking, the unit has\
been reset and is ready to use. Resetting the router does not reset the firmware to an earlier\
version, but it will change all settings back to factory defaults.

{% endstep %}
{% endstepper %}

**Note**: The password for the Administrator (Admin) account will be reset to the default. When\
logging in for the first time after resetting your router, leave the Password field blank and click\
**Log In**.

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the following URL with the `ask` and `goal` query parameters:

```
GET https://support.dlink.com.sg/consumer/wi-fi-router/dir-880l/faqs/how-to-reset-to-factory-default-settings.md?ask=<question>&goal=<user_goal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is what the user is ultimately trying to achieve, the reason they need the answer. Sharing it helps GitBook give you a better, more relevant answer. A goal is most helpful when it describes the outcome the user wants rather than restating the question. For example, with `ask=how do I create an API token`, a goal like `automate deployments from our CI pipeline` lets GitBook tailor the answer to that use case.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
